Nightlife in New York City: Endless Opportunities

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

Weekends, the time when people decide what they want to do to relax, maybe its going out to a bar or club, to a party, or maybe even walking around the city with no particular destination except for somewhere to have fun! The night scene in New York City seems to attract many people mainly because of the kinds of things that people can do at night.

Not only is New York City famous for its “club scenes”, but it is also famous for different venues where music is performed. such as The Knitting Factory, also various school coffee houses are available to young people to find entertainment.

However, there are many places which are aimed towards more adult crowds. These include sports bars, and nightclubs.

Elementary school aged children also have their slice of pie. They have public playrooms, such as FunWorks. FunWorks, is a place where children can play and interact with other children of different ages, read books, and watch TV.

All in all, New York City caters to almost everybody. Theres always something to do for any person of any age.The image “http://www.destination360.com/north-america/us/new-york/images/s/new-york-city.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

50 Cent Vs. Kanye West

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

Curtis Jackson, better known by his stage name 50 Cent is a rapper born in Queens who rose to fame with his album Get Rich Or Die Tryin’. His story became known after his first two major albums, his video game 50 Cent: Bulletproof and his autobiographical movie Get Rich Or Die Tryin’. He is the rapper who was shot nine times and still kept running to save his life. 50 Cent has been in the rapping game since the 90′s but he did not make it big until 2003 with his “freshman” album Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ with the help of Dr. Dre and Eminem. Last comes his album Curtis.

Kanye West is a rapper from the “Chi-Town” (Chicago) who found success with his first hit single Through the Wire using help from Dame Dash, Jay-Z, and Chaka Khan’s classic track Through The Fire. He does not have as good of a life story as 50 Cent but he still made it big. He started his career with The College Dropout, devastating the whole world with his famous songs Through the Wire, Gold Digger, Jesus Walks, and Diamonds From Sierra Leone. He came out with his “sophomore” album immediately after getting a positive response from the world, with these two albums he gained 6 grammys. Lastly is his third album, Graduation.

Kanye West

The title of this blog is so because both of these artists “junior” albums came out on September 11th and the battle was to see who would sell more copies. 50 Cent told the New York Daily News, “Let’s raise the stakes. If Kanye West sells more records than 50 Cent on September 11, I’ll no longer (perform) music. I’ll write music and work with my other artists, but I won’t put out any more solo albums. Who sold more? Kanye. However, when Kanye West sold more 50 Cent, 50 Cent said it was a fluke that Kanye sold more than him because Kanye has never sold that many copies. Did 50 Cent retire? No, he already has his senior album ready, he wants the money, and because of that he’s going to rap until he drops. What do the people think? It is undecided, some people think Kanye West is better, while others think 50 Cent is better. I personally think 50 Cent is better because of his last single of his album I Get Money, it is such a good song, good lyrics, good beat, good everything. However, Kanye has gotten better lyrically and has grown as a rapper, he just brings something completely different to the stage, instead of a gangster style like 50 Cent, he has somewhat of a preppy style, he brings his own style in fashion and music.

Chaotic Commute

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

Every morning, I get up at 5:30, then at 5:40 then at 5:50am to begin my day. I rush to take a shower, iron clothes for me and my son, get him up and we try to be out the door by 6:40am to begin what is an hour + commute on the MTA . We walk 3 blocks, 1 Avenue to the train station. We catch the R local one stop to 36th Street and catch the N express train. If all is going well, we stay on the R until 59th Street Lexington Ave where my son then catches the 4 or 5 train 1 stop to 86th street. He then walks 15 minutes to school.

There are many days where all is NOT going well. Those days, my commute is hell! Then I have to take the train N train to Pacific Street and change to the 4 or 5 train. That train is usually pretty crowded so it can be an uncomfortable ride. Often, unusual things happen on the train. I will be blogging about those instances. Hopefully through sharing, we can find some value to those experiences.
