On Tuesday, Browning’s entire third grade visited the new Children’s Room at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Library on 42nd Street and 5th Avenue.

Librarian Betsy Bird introduced the boys to the collection and showed us around the entire building. We got to see the beautiful Rose Reading Room and the rotunda. We learned about how pneumatic tubes zoom call slips down to the stacks, where pages get the books and send them to readers in little elevators! We even got a sneak peek into the book stacks, where non staff members are never allowed.

Back in the children’s room we saw the original Winnie the Pooh bear and his friends – amazing stuffed toys owned by the real Christopher Robin! Every third grader got a library card while we visited (if they didn’t already have one), and most boys checked out at least one book. They learned that they can visit any branch of New York Public Library to find books, movies, CDs, and even video games.
