Kate Feiffer, author of Henry the Dog With No Tail, Double Pink and the recent and very timely President Pennybaker visited classes 4C, 3W and 3G today at Browning!
Ms. Feiffer spoke about how she gets ideas for her books – guess who owns a tail-missing dog called Henry? – and about the process of writing and publishing. She also shared the inside scoop on Luke Pennybaker and what he would have had to do to actually run for President of the United States (including grow older by about 25 years).
Before she left, Ms. Feiffer conducted an election, and each boy got to fill out a secret ballot. The options were:
LUKE PENNYBAKER, the Birthday Party
BARACK OBAMA, the Democratic Party
JOHN McCAIN, the Republican Party
YOUR MOM
YOUR DAD
WRITE IN ______________
Write-in candidates were surprisingly popular in both grades, and here are our results:
4C:
Mr. Cantwell – 4 votes
Barack Obama – 2 votes
John McCain – 1 vote
Neither Luke Pennybaker, nor anyone’s Mom or Dad got any votes, but several more write-in candidates make our list
3W and 3G:
Our more established candidates were upset in a surprise turn of events, as Rohan Singh got 8 votes!
Rohan was closely followed by Barack Obama, 6 votes and John McCain, 4 votes. The third graders also gave 2 votes to Luke Pennybaker, 2 to the Moms, 1 vote to a Dad, and several votes to other write-in candidates.
Here in the library, we are certain that Mr. C and Rohan will do the Lower School proud! (But we are curious to see the results of our school-wide election coming up next week…)
