Every year at the end of September, the American Library Association and libraries around the country celebrate our freedom to read by observing Banned Books Week. At Browning, we have displayed many frequently challenged books and provided the reasons for challenges. Browning students are surprised to see that many of the books they have read at school and at home have are among those that some individuals would like to remove from public or school libraries all over the country.
How many of these banned or challenged books have you read?
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
the Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
A Separate Peace by John Knowles
The Color Purple by Alice Walker
The Giver by Lois Lowry
Stop by the library to see even more banned and challenged books!
